Shutaro Shimazaki, a 27-year-old unemployed man, returns to his rural hometown after losing his job in Tokyo, hoping to figure out his next step. But his quiet retreat is upended when his parents task him with looking after his half-Finnish, half-Japanese niece, Nina, a bright and curious 10-year-old with silver hair and a love for Japanese culture.
