Tokutarō Kawashima, a former Japanese sergeant haunted by his wartime past, runs a small eatery in Tokyo’s black market in 1946. He reunites with Kadomatsu Kuroda, a rough-edged private who served under him during the war. The two men navigate the gritty underbelly of post-war Tokyo, encountering black market traders and street workers. Kawashima grapples with personal guilt while trying to survive in a city scarred by defeat. Kuroda, impulsive and loyal, becomes entangled in the same underworld, often clashing with local gangs. Their shared history binds them as they face the challenges of a broken society.
