Hatori Matsuzaki, a high school girl, believes she is the perfect heroine destined to be with her childhood friend, Rita Terasaka, whom she has loved for years. Her confidence crumbles when Rita begins showing interest in a shy, kind-hearted classmate, Adachi. Determined to maintain her "heroine" status, Hatori schemes to win Rita back, often clashing with her lively friend Nakajima, who encourages her to face reality. As Hatori navigates her unrequited feelings, she starts noticing the attention of Kosuke Hiromitsu, a popular and charismatic boy.
