Chiyo Misugi, a strong-willed and affluent schoolgirl, meets Yoshiko Tanabe, a talented but impoverished artist, in Taisho-era Japan. The two form an unlikely bond, united by their desire to challenge the restrictive norms of a male-dominated society. Using Yoshiko’s artistic skills, they begin creating picture stories to express women’s perspectives, starting with simple caricatures. Their creative partnership evolves as they experiment with techniques like speech bubbles and dynamic layouts, navigating societal pushback. Together, Chiyo and Yoshiko embark on a spirited journey to carve out their voices through art and friendship.
