At Shiiou University, Kanji Sasahara is a shy freshman eager to find his place, torn between his love for otaku culture and the fear of embracing it fully. When he stumbles upon Genshiken, the "Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture," he discovers a quirky group of students united by their passion for anime, manga, and games. Alongside Saki Kasukabe, a non-otaku dragged into the club by her boyfriend, and a cast of eccentric members, Kanji navigates the joys and challenges of college life, from cosplay and comic conventions to the bonds that form over shared obsessions.
