College students Maki and Yaeko witness a bizarre accident when a man is injured by a falling dictionary from the sky. Despite his head wound, the man refuses help from police or paramedics, raising suspicions. Calling himself "Mogura," he claims to be banned from the afterlife and is on a mission to collect "lanterns" from ghosts. Since meeting him, Maki and Yaeko begin seeing strange, otherworldly things they wish they hadn't. As they get drawn into Mogura's enigmatic world, they uncover the mysteries of their town and the blurred line between the living and the dead.
