Makoto Saeki, a high school girl and the fifteenth heir to a small Inari shrine, can see the shrine’s fox herald, Gintarou, due to her inherited gift of The Sight. Gintarou, a brash and lazy anthropomorphic fox, serves as the messenger of the god Inari, assisting Makoto with shrine duties. Makoto, kind-hearted and meddlesome, uses her abilities to help visitors with their troubles, often involving Gintarou’s reluctant guidance. Their daily life at the shrine includes interactions with Makoto’s father, Tatsuo, and her classmate Satoru Kamio, who also sees heralds. Through these encounters, Makoto navigates her role as a shrine maiden, balancing human and divine connections.
