Kenji Gion worries about being short as he begins life at Kanagawa High School. On entrance ceremony day, he meets the tall Sumiaki Iwashimizu. The two encounter rugby together. Their different builds make them an uneven pair. The early focus is on their first step into a serious high school rugby club.

Takayanagi teaches an elective high school class about ethics. The class asks students to think about right, wrong, and how people should live. Many students who attend are dealing with personal problems. Takayanagi faces their concerns through lessons in moral philosophy. The classroom becomes a place where students can view their troubles from another angle.
