While fleeing one of them, he stumbles into a strange shop that grants wishes. The shop's owner says she can remove the spirits for a price. Watanuki's payment begins as part-time work in the shop.

His days involve helping the shopkeeper care for clients and handling requests brought to the shop. Peaceful routines are interrupted by dizziness, odd feelings, and words from friends that do not quite fit. A voice calling to him deepens the unease around his everyday life.
