A girl with a mysterious bond to the mountains travels through feudal Japan. She can understand what mountains need and sense when people disturb them. Each stop brings her to a different mountain village. Local conflicts place humans and nature at odds. Her early journeys focus on restoring peace between villages and the land around them.
