Yotaro is released from prison after serving as a model inmate. He heads to a theater district because he cannot forget a master performer's prison recital. Convinced that rakugo is his path, he begs the master Yakumo to take him as a pupil. Yakumo is known for refusing disciples. Yotaro must enter a demanding performing art after life behind bars.

Ayano loves reading so much that she pays little attention to the real world. Her mother worries and sends her to Takayuki Noumi. He is a former author who now works as a consulting detective. Ayano becomes his assistant. Through detective work, she begins looking for a reason to care about the world beyond books.
