A young man named Shosuke Himuro arrives at the Shogi Hall in Tokyo, carrying a recommendation letter from the legendary shogi player Sanyoshi Mikami, aiming to become a professional shogi player. During the 51st Meijin Title Match, where the reigning Meijin, Gan Ohara, faces challenger Koji Takigawa in a heated seventh game, Shosuke’s presence sparks interest. Pro player Toramaru, intrigued by the recommendation, pits Shosuke against a second-dan player, Bando, to test his skills. The next day, Toramaru challenges Shosuke to face a top amateur, Sekizaki, promising entry into the professional training group if he wins. Shosuke’s bold and unconventional approach to shogi begins to draw attention as he navigates these early matches.
