A veteran executive is promoted to managing director at a major electronics company. He is put in charge of operations across China and must travel between Tokyo and Shanghai. Factory labor unrest and anti-Japanese sentiment quickly complicate his new role. Different subordinates handle China in sharply different ways, creating more pressure inside the company. His early decisions test whether corporate diplomacy can hold while business conditions worsen.
