In 1959 Nagoya, twelve-year-old Asa Asada is always running and often has her name mistaken. She is introduced as an ordinary girl living in postwar Japan. Her energetic daily life begins against a backdrop that will stretch from the postwar years toward the present. Early scenes emphasize her youth, movement, and place in a changing city. The setup centers on one unnamed woman's life beginning in a turbulent era.
