Mio is bright, caring, and quick to look out for her friends. When the transfer student Haibara arrives after earning a perfect score on the entrance exam, she tries to befriend him. He flatly tells her he has no intention of getting along with her. Even so, Haibara helps when Mio faces the risk of repeating a year. That gap between his cold words and helpful actions makes him hard for her to ignore.
