A suspicious boat carrying explosives is found near Maizuru Bay. Later, a child detective, his friends, and their companions board an Aegis destroyer for a public training cruise. An unidentified underwater target and the discovery of a severed arm turn the event into a national-security case. The investigation suggests that a spy may be among the civilians on board. The confined ship forces deduction, military secrecy, and immediate danger into the same space.
