Ten thousand years after humans terraformed Venus, the planet has become a vast green wilderness. People live without the benefits of the lost scientific civilization. Hiruko, a young hunter from Suzushiro village, is recognized for his strength and trusted by those around him. While searching for the woman he first loved, he begins to uncover secrets about his world. A talking lion-monkey later marks him for a path tied to ruling the forest.
