A gray and white newborn kitten gets separated from her mother during a walk. Lost in a city park, she cries until a young boy and his mother find her. They take her into the Yamada family apartment, even though pets are not allowed there. The family tries to find another home for her but grows attached as daily mishaps begin. The kitten begins a new life with toilet training, hidden risks, and the routines of a human household.
