Erin, a curious 10-year-old girl, lives with her mother Soyon, a skilled beast physician who cares for Tōda, powerful war-beasts revered as great serpents. When all the Tōda under Soyon’s care mysteriously die, she faces harsh judgment, leaving Erin to navigate the consequences of her mother’s fate. Rescued by Joun, a kind beekeeper, Erin begins a new life, learning about the natural world and her own resilience. Her encounter with a majestic royal beast, a symbol of the king’s authority, ignites her fascination with these creatures and their care. These early experiences, marked by loss and discovery, set Erin on a path to become a beast physician, driven by her bond with the creatures and her desire to understand their mysteries.
